Indium trichloride (InCI3) is a white, odorless, highly soluble powder. Its particles are in the form of flakes or discs and are highly soluble in water and inorganic acids. Indium trichloride can be used to prepare other inorganic and organic indium compounds, such as TMI (trimethylindium). TMI is the most widely used precursor metal organic compound and is mainly used for the production of indium-containing composite metal compounds. The process of preparing trimethylindium from indium trichloride is generally divided into the following steps: first, dissolve indium trichloride in a dry organic solvent, and then add a methylating reagent (such as methylmagnesium bromide) to the solution. When the reaction is carried out under appropriate temperature conditions, indium trichloride reacts with the methylating reagent to produce by-products such as trimethylindium and magnesium chloride. Finally, through suitable extraction and purification methods, such as distillation or crystallization, the pure trimethylindium product can be obtained.
